The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics is redefining the way musculoskeletal care is delivered across the region with locations throughout Maryland, DC, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Dr. Lloyd Cox specializes in orthopaedic surgery at the Southern Maryland Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center Division in Leonardtown, Maryland. Dr. Cox founded the division in 1986 to provide state-of-the-art orthopaedic care to the community. Continuously board certified since 1989 and more than a quarter century later, he remains dedicated to providing patients with the same level of quality care.
In his more than 29 years of continuous practice, Dr. Cox has performed more than 10,000 orthopaedic operations including 1,700 total knee and hip replacements in addition to 1,000 spine surgeries. Dr. Cox continues to deepen his orthopaedic knowledge by pursuing additional education in age management and functional medicine. He has served as Chief of Surgery and as a member of the board at St. Mary’s Hospital, as well as team physician for the St. Mary’s College Seahawks.
Dr. Cox has a personal interest in wellness and strives to lead a healthy lifestyle. In raising his three daughters, he has coached and attended countless middle school and high school sporting events. Interestingly, Dr. Cox is a self-identified aviation buff and ‘soloed’ at age 16 before earning a commercial pilots license with instrument and multiengine ratings.
